Can you make a font using PNG images?

Hi there!

I am teaching digital art, but don't have a ton of experience in it. I had my high school students develop fonts by photographing shapes they made out of found objects, such as leaves or q-tips. They have all created the entire alphabet out of these objects and I was hoping they could turn their images into a font to write with. This is just an art project – they do not need to use these fonts outside of it. Based on what they've made, I think it'd be best if they stayed as images, not vector shapes.

If there is no way to do this, I'll just have them copy and drag their letters to write something, but I thought they'd really enjoy typing with their letters since they put in a lot of work.

Thank you for your help!
