Cant create a new layer from mesh.

I am trying to create a 3D model but the new mask from layer > area is greyed out, except for Postcard. I understand a few of the reasons this might happen, but I seem to be OK in most. My Mac OS is up to date as is my VDU driver. I have 1.5GB on the VDU which isn't huge but should be enough. Memory is 16GB which also isn't great but should be sufficient, particularly when nothing else is running.

And what shape are you actually trying to create? A screenshot of your paths might certainly help clarify this mystery, assuming it's not that old issue of the 3D stuff being a pain in the rear on intel graphics Macs in the broadest sense...

Hi Mylenium,

thanks so much for responding. Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm in Australia so probably a big time diff.

I am trying to use 3D > New Mesh From Layer > Mesh Preset > Soda, just to follow a simple tutorial on wrapping an image around a can. So I'm afraid I don't have any paths to show you. Also, I haven't used 3D in Photoshop before.

I use SketchUp and v-Ray on the mac for my regular 3D stuff and they seem to work without any problems. Anything else I can give you to help identify the problem.

What is the aspect ratio of your texture image? Is there transparency/ Alpha? Also have you checked whether the mesh presets are actually in the Adobe sub-folders and are accessible? Lately Adobe apps often seem to mess up access privileges of their folders and this may need to be fixed manually. A short excursion to the Library folder might be a good idea.

again, thanks so much for your advice. I think you have, at least, resolved my current problem without actually finding out what was causing it.

As you suggested, I had a look in the Library and found the presets. The privileges were a little unclear. By selecting one of the Presets, I was able to get it to open in Photoshop thus enabling me to attach the image to it. The original problem still exists (ie the options are still greyed out in Photoshop), but I don't care now. I have a workaround and that is 100% thanks to you.
