Bonjour,
Merci !

Franchement trop compliquée cette application...

If you enable visibility of the extensions you will see the Photoshop.exe file. It is already in your list it just doesn't have the extension showing.

OK ,
With 1 it sounds like the file is not associated with any version of Photoshop.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling which might bump Microsoft Windows into acting correctly but if it does not, then you are left with 2 and 3 or of course using File > Open within Photoshop rather than just clicking on a file to open Photoshop.

Hey, @1tri-k-sion. Welcome to the Photoshop community. We're here to help.

You'll need to set up Photoshop 2025 as the default app for handling all your files.

Follow these steps:

1 - Go to an image or PSD file

2 - Right-click > Open With > Choose another app > Scroll down in the app selector pop-up > select 'Choose an app on your PC'.

3 - Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2025 & select Photoshop.exe.

4 - Apply or Okay to save changes.

You can install Photoshop 2024 from the Creative Cloud desktop app: https://adobe.ly/4hH4mIw

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Hi,

Go to Windows File Explorer. Click on the three dots icon, at the top of the screen, and click on Options.

Then choose View and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types

You should now see the file extensions including .exe

Thank you Dave for trying to help me. The point is not to find how to see the extension file but to find the application .exe. I don't find the application.

Hi
If the steps you have taken to associate the current version of Photoshop with your image files are not working or sticking then the issue is with Microsoft Windows. In older versions of Windows this was relatively easy to fix by modifying the entry for file association in the Windows registry. However, in current versions, Microsoft have added extra restrictions which effectively prevent that (there is a security hash code calculated and if the registry entries don't match it will reject them). Whilst this was done to prevent hacking by malware, it means that when Windows file associations break and won't update with the provided tools then it leaves users stuck.

There are two things you could do:

1. Open the current version of Photoshop first. Then, even if your file is associated with a previous version, it will actually open in the current version.

2. Open files from Bridge raqther than Windows File Explorer. Bridge has its own application default settings.

3. Reset Windows file associations from Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps, but do note that this will reset all file associations for all applications on your PC and they would then need to be manually set up again. This could be a big task.

  1. @davescm
I'm really grateful for your help, Dave, but all this is far too complicated for me.
    1. Open the current version of Photoshop first. Then, even if your file is associated with a previous version, it will actually open in the current version. I did it but the photoshop icon doesn't reappear and I still can't open the file by clicking on it after saving and closing it.
    2. Open files from Bridge raqther than Windows File Explorer. Bridge has its own application default settings.

I don't really want to add a new program to my computer at the risk of further overloading the memory, which is very busy with Photoshop and Illustrator.

    3. Reset Windows file associations from Windows Settings > Apps > Default Apps, but do note that this will reset all file associations for all applications on your PC and they would then need to be manually set up again. This could be a big task.
it kills me just thinking about it. I'm not computer-savvy enough to choose this solution.
Do you think that if I uninstall and reinstall, there's any chance that it will work?
Everything was working before I downloaded photoshop version 26.
Thank you Dave, thanks to you I feel less alone in this situation.

Hi Dave
I had connection problems with peripherals. I could understand It was a windows update problem (I block automatic updates). You were right.
Everything went back to normal.
Thank you for your very efficient and reassuring support.
