Hi I would like to change my default type size in photoshop?

I know about presets. and i know to change the default font i open ps without a document and change it then close photoshop.

I try the same for type size but it changes when creating a new document and depending on the document size it seems to change the default type size?

WHY!

Thanks in advance

I have not found a way to change the default font when you open a document but I did find an interesting work around.

Here are the steps:

Open a new document, and select the font, size and color (optional) that you want to use, or a font that you use consistently, and type some text.

Choose the Move tool. The Type is still selected--you should see a bounding box around the type.

Click back on the Type tool, and in the Options bar, click on dropdown menu of the Preset option for the Type tool.

Click the New Preset button on the right side and save this configuration as a new preset.

Now, open a new document, select the Type tool and first—go to your presets in the Options bar and select the preset you just created.

When you click to create a new line of type it will be the font, size, and whatever other parameter you chose. And it will stay that same way until you choose the default Photoshop type settings again.

Let us know if that works for what you need1

thanks for the reply, but in my question, I highlighted I know about the preset functions, so unfortunately this isn't what I'm after. I also explain in brief in my question how to change the default font too, im just stuck on the default size not being consistent.

Hi!

I am not clear about where exactly you want to change the font size? Is it on your document, or is it in the interface (dialog boxes and menus, etc.)?

so whatever new document I create. be in 300dpi, 72dpi, a million pixels wide or 4. i would like it so when i click the type tool the default font, text size, and all other font characteristics are the same every time i make a new document.

i hope thats clearer.

I seem to have managed all but the font size.

Thank you!

That does clear it up, and I now understand what you are looking for. Since type is built in points (not pixels), I don't think what you are asling for is possible. (I welcome anyone else on the forum to chime in hereif they have a different understanding!)

Type at 12 points is going to be a different size in a 72 pixel image than it will be in a 300 pixel image. because it's not based on a percentage of the document pixel dimension--it is a fixed size. Pixels and points are not the same.

Let me know if that helps,

Michelle

Yeah i've already fixed it for my team with a preset, so that the font size is pixel based and doesn't visually change between docs with 72 or 300dpi but the same 1000x1000px. To fix that i just changed all the preferences for my team and made sure the units were set to pixels not points.
