Adobe Photoshop version 21.6.0
Windows 11 24H2, 26120.2222
Steps to produce problem: Make a selection, type a prompt into the generative fill box, click "generate". Changes happen far outside of the user selection, impacting many pixels out.
Expected behavior: Generative fill previously only effected pixels within the selection, or maybe 1 or 2 pixels out from the selection at most.
It's unclear if the recent changes to generative fill were intentional, but they are definitely bad. The tool is worse than it was.
Previously, generative fill worked based strictly on your selection. Now, generative fill has a huge buffer zone outside of your selection that it can also alter, it really seems like between 10 and 20 pixels out from the selection can be impacted by the change.
This takes away the previously "surgical" nature of Generative Fill which myself and others greatly appreciated. So far as I can tell, these changes were rolled out without any way to customize back to the original behavior. The change takes precision and control away from the artist.
Hi all,
Thanks for alerting us to this issue. I'm sorry that its affecting your productivity 😞
I can confirm the pixel buffer spread is larger in 26.1 than 26.0
We'll let you know here when we have a solution (other than the work around to fall back to v26.0)
Thank you,
Meredith

Here is an example of my previous post. You can clearly see how far I went away from my main subject to make my main selection. After tapping generate, you can see what it did to my selection and how it affected my main subject. How are we suppose to work like this??? I tried the removal tool in LrC as well and the results were poor so decided to let photoshop have a go at it. Very frustrating!

How is this still an issue after this long? The fix could have been as simple as reverting the change made in 26.1. Inside of a selection should NOT be modified by GenFill!! Between this and the issue where just about any form of skin makes the tool yell at you and refuse to work, GenFill has become completely useless!! I'm going to move on to freely available tools and cancel my subscription and I suggest others also vote with their money because this company has gone down the toilet.

When i ask Generative AI to replace the background around a person, the resulting fill goes outside the selection area and winds up overlapping the original image, distorting the faces in the original image.
I tried to set up a simple example below using 3 images:
• The first image shows a person. I've highlighted the blue background with the magic wand. I hit generative fill with no instructions.
• The second image shows the image with the completed fill.
• The third image i've turned off the original image layter to show how the fill is outside the original selection area.
Generative AI going this far outside of the selectuon area destroys facial features not in the original selection area.
I hope this made sense.

I misspoke in my original post. My instruction to the Generative AI was "busy city street".
