Question

Color difference between preview and workspace

I updated photoshop recently and now my color profiles seem to be off. The image is displaying a much cooler version of the colors in the "preview" in the camera raw filter than in my photoshop workspace. When I save the image out as a .png or .jpg, it is showing the same colors as camera raw shows, NOT the colors in my photoshop workspace.

I have read through several of the other color profile-related forums, re-downloaded my monitor's color profile, tried changing the default profiles in photoshop, etc. with no luck. It's becoming extremely frustrating to do any photo editing with this going on. I know I'm missing something here, just not sure what. Thank you so much to anyone in advance for any help!

Yes, a defective monitor profile.

That looks like a broken monitor profile. You set the monitor profile in your operating system (not Photoshop) and Photoshop will then use it when displaying colours.

Ideally you will make a new profile with a calibration device and that will set the profile for you.
Are you using Mac or Windows?

Yes, it appeared to be at least a discrepancy between the monitor profile and the photoshop profile. I had fixed my monitor profile, BUT, in the meantime, I think I had screwed up photoshop's color settings, so I wasn't seeing the fix. When I restored photoshop to default settings, with the corrected monitor profile, I think that's what did the trick!

I'm still not sure how I fixed it or what was wrong. It was also causing everything I saved out to be a very cool shade of how the actual file looked in the workspace. I uninstalled and reinstalled both bridge and photoshop and my monitor and it seems to be working now!

Your system was probably set to use a broken (or incorrect) monitor profile
