Color Picker - Lost

I am using Photoshop CS5.1 and I recently updated my Windows 10 pro 64 bit.

I just wonder if it is the recent Windows 10 update a few days ago that had caused my color picker to be lost. After much attempt to relocate and resettings I only manage to get this one. So I just wonder if I should reinstall the PS to overcome this problem.

note: the Windows 10 update is not the 1809 but just  the normal updates that comes on now and then for version 1803

the old faithful which was lost is as below.

I think your Photoshop Installer has a Repair option you can try when you run it. So that means you do not have to uninstall, it will try and fix it first.

But you will have install the updates, because it will go back to the base version.

In photoshop CS5 go to Edit>Preferences>General and set the Color Picker to Adobe.

Tq for your reply Jeff.

I have tried setting to adobe in the preference using adobe.

I then went back to the tool and click on the color but no color chart pop up.

But then using windows in the preference, there was the basic color picker.

Guess I would have to uninstall photoshop and then re install it.

regards and thanks

Maybe before you reinstall try trashing your Photoshop preferences.

You are all correct that in the preference area it should be set to ADOBE.

However I guess the Windows update trashed that away and retain its color picker version.

Anyone know where the file is store and the file name. Maybe it can be extracted from the cd suite that it came with.

regards and thanks to all for your help

Thanks.... I will try to repair it.

I tried to reinstall. First I deactivated PS but then as I had bought the software under Adobe Creative Suite 5.5, it meant that all the other software like Indesign, Dreamweaver and Acrobat Distiller had to be deactivated. So I just left it and let it be without reinstalling.

Hi Folks,

I have solved the problem and reinstated my original photoshop color picker.

I installed the same version cs5.1 in another of my computer.

After searching for an answer from one of the tutorials from Adobe on Photoshop on restoring preferences, I tried and then copied this file from the newly installed setting in this folder

c:/user/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Settings

and then pasted this file into it

Adobe Photoshop X64 CS5.1 Prefs.psp

note: best to rename the file to be replaced by adding xxxxx_original.psp (this will enable you to restore it should anything goes wrong)

And hey.... I have got my color picker back.

So now am waiting for my XP Pen Artist 22e pro to come
