'Configuration error' followed by crash, how do I get rid of it? (CS5)

Hi fellow Photoshoppers,

This message pop's up a million times and crashes my Finder and Photoshop. I can't use Photoshop. I just can't. What do I need to do to fix this (without reinstalling CS5)? I'm not convinced reinstalling everything will solve the problem.

How the f*ck dare you ask € 2,735.81 for this piece of CR*P. The interface has actually become WORSE!!! I don't know how you did it Adobe, I'm royally pissed off. Jesus Christ! AAAAARGGG.

Hi Dipu,

From what I guess, the folder permissions for '/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache' can be correct ( 'Read and Write') but it seems that the file - cache.db inside this folder is Read Only.

check the permissions of the file '/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache/cache.db'. If its Read only, change it to Read and Write.

Relaunch the app and the issue should get fixed.

The Configuration error dialog comes only in this case.

Please try again. Hope this fixes the issue.

       Thanks for your email. I got it working! The /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache/cache.db file permission was set to read and write but under general tab the locked checkbox was ticked. I unlocked it and now it runs perfect.

I am a mac user and getting the same error message. I had cs4 before, I think usual cs4 uninstaller doesnt actually work.

Not surprised though how the tech guys in adobe ignores this problem saying it is just our fault. Tech people always like t blame others.

Please guys, stop blaming and find a solution.

i switched hardisks recently, it worked on the old hardisk not ps5 dosen't work for some reason

Hi,

Could you please check if there is a file called 'cache.db-journal' in '%programfiles%\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache' folder.

If yes, please delete the file and try again.

Also, make sure that the file cache.db in the same folder has Read-Write permissions.

If the problem still remains same, then please share the  amt3.log, oobelib.log and PDApp.log files from the folder %temp%.

ok the files i have in that folder are: cache.db;A576E092038C;AA79159390F0;E5F4086C62BA

as far as read-write exactly how do you do that?, right click cache. db and then propperties and uncheck only read?

if so i have that little box unchecked

So, are you still getting the same 'Configuration Error' screen with 'Error : 6'?

If yes, please check if the file 'adobe_caps.dll' is present in the folder where Photoshop.exe is present (default location is '%programfiles%\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\').

If the above mentioned file is present, then please share the files amt3.log, oobelib.log and PDApp.log.

Otherwise, reinstall PS.

my pd app log is huge, and im not sure which parts to give so how about ill upload all 3 logs somewhere and give you the link, ill do it right now

It seems that there was some problem with the installation. To verify that, could you please zip and share the folder Adobe PCD (found in '%programfiles%\Common Files\Adobe\' ).

im having some problems getting the folder into a zip , windows isnt letting me touch or change any of the files, any bits of information i can provide without uploading the folder?

Please share the permissions you have for the folder 'Adobe PCD' and also for the files pcd.db and cache.db present in the folder.

To get the permissions, right click on file/folder -> Properties -> Go to security tab -> Select the users (one at a time) and take a snapshot of the screen for all the users.

Also, one question: When you installed the application on your new hard disk, was installation successful or there was some error? And what happens if you try to reinstall?

when i open up the properties of the file theres only a general tab, when i open up properties of a folder theres a general, parameters, and access

when  installed there were no visable errors so i thought it would work, another thing is that if i reinstall it goes finely.

I just wanted to address the original posted who went on a rant and later apologized.

You shouldn't apologize for *anything*.  I've been doing web development for 14 years. Adobe's products have been a buggy joke ever since Photoshop 4. I always avoided Adobe for the far superior Macromedia products, but of course Adobe bought Macromedia and turned all the great apps into their typical bloated, buggy, extremely unpleasant to use software.

Yes, I just got the same error this thread is about. Installing Adobe software is an enormous pain, using Adobe software is an enormous pain, and well, that's about it.
