Constant-size text in a resizable shape

I'm on Photoshop v 20. I want to put text in a rectangle (or possible other shape). I want to change the size or proportions of the shape, but not resize or distort the text.

I've tried making a rectangle, then using the text tool (which turns into a kind of "balloon" when placed over a shape). At first it works, but any attempt to resize the shape will change the size of the text or distort the aspect ratio.

• Select the Path Selection Tool (A)

• select the Type Path in the Paths Panel

• cmd-click the Path or one or multiple Path Points and transform it/them as intended

Hello, this gets close to working, but I don't know how to simply resize the rectangle or change the width/height proportion. When I cmd-click the path, I start dragging around individual lines and points, but very quickly it distorts the shape, which then doesn't look anything like a rectangle and the text flow goes crazy (lines staggered, short lines, etc.)

You can still use

Edit > Free Transform Path (cmd-T)

on the selected Path.

Edit: But there is no immediate preview, only on committing will the text be distributed anew.

What if I wish to preserve the orginal rectangle's colours, stroke, etc.? The resizing/redimensioning seems to apply only on the text's shape but not on the underlying (original) shape itself (obviously, you can redo everything manually, which works for simple rectangles — there are even some scripts published here that do it automatically — but not for very complex shapes (i.e., basically anything which is not a rectangle)...

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Paths, Options Bar, …) visible to clarify?

Are you talking about two distinct Layers – a Shape Layer (with Fill and/or Stroke) and a Type Layer?
