Copy All on Mac Photoshop CC (shft + cmd + C) pastes dull image

Hi guys

I've been using the copy all feature in PS a lot because we have Skype groups where we discuss design ideas etc. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that whenever I copy all from PS and paste into Skype the image colours are dull/washed out. This happens when pasting into WhatsApp as well. When copying and pasting within PS the colours remain the same, it's only when I paste outside of PS that it changes. This was not the case before when I was doing it on a daily basis.

I did not install any new versions of PS since it started changing the colours and can't remember changing any colour settings on purpose (maybe I press the shortcut keys or something) but somehow it just started doing this. I've searched the forum as well as online but nothing helpful has come up.

I now have to take a screenshot using my Mac or save out the images I want to share which is much more time consuming than just copying and pasting especially seeing as it's only for concepts, ideas and planning before I go ahead and design the final artwork.

Please help!

Cheers

Arno

HI Arnod,

One other thought: since the screen shot works, what happens when you use Ctrl+Shift+Cmd+4 to copy?

Thank you all for trying to assist, I think somehow the point is being missed though, I know about the role colour profiles play and I've made sure that my settings are correct and correspond with each other. I also know that saving out the image and then sending it works perfectly fine without any colour changes, even taking a screenshot (to speed up the process when prototyping) and then pasting it in the chat works 100%. My question is to fix (I say fix because it used to work perfectly fine thus it IS possible) the way PS saves the image file when the copy all/merged shortcut (shift + cmd + c) is used.

That is a brilliant idea! Using this workaround my workflow is back to normal, I just tweaked the shortcut slightly because you need to be an alien to hit ctr + shft + cmd + 4 with one hand

Thank you SO much for your help and not giving up jane-e

Thank you all for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. I hear what you are saying but it used to work 100% so I know the functionality does exist. Also as an example, if I copy an image from any online source and hit paste in the chat within Skype or WhatsApp it imports the image straight from the clipboard with the correct colours, with that said, I don't think it's on the chat application side where the issue lies. It has to be the way that Photoshop saves the image to the clipboard.

Hi Arnod,

  • Please describe what happens when you do it according to the directions from Skype and What's App as posted earlier.
    and
  • Please describe what happens when you copy and paste from PS with each of the three scenarios as described by davescm

Screenshots would be helpful so we can better assist.

Hi jane-e

It's impossible to do what I described in my problem by attaching the file via WhatsApp or Skype because the desired file sits in the clipboard and is not saved anywhere. This whole idea is part of the ease of use that comes from just copying and pasting into the chats as I used to.

The examples given by davescm is not really applicable in my situation because:

1 - it also suggests that the image needs to be saved and sent via WhatsApp / Skype's attache file methods - That defeats the purpose 100% as I mentioned in my original post. In fact, that takes even longer than how I am doing it right now by taking a screenshot with my Mac and just dragging & dropping the image into the messaging apps.
2 - I understand colour profiles and frankly the colour profile I save the image in is completely null and void here because again, that is not what I want to do at all. When I save the images and then either send using the attache function or even just dragging the images into the chats, they look perfect.

That's not what I want to do. I want to copy all (shift + cmd + c) and paste into the chats like I used to. I need somebody to please help me figure out where I can change the way PS saved the copied image to the clipboard.

Hi Arno,

That isn't a great user experience as Photoshop is pasting pixelated images when you copy-paste images to Whatsapp or Skype, we're sorry to hear about this. Let us help make it right.

Which exact version of Photoshop are you using and what is the scale of pixelation you're facing? Could you please share a comparison of any of the images you copied from Photoshop to Whatsapp/Skype?

Thanks,

Akash

Thank you for your swift response Akash. I'm not sure if my question was 100% understood correctly, but I'm sure the example I've attached will get us on the same page!

The images don't pixelate at all, they just lose colour for some reason. In the example image below I even colour picked from the exact same spot and got completely different colour values. I am running Adobe Photoshop CC 20.0.0 release on an Apple MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) - Photoshop nor macOS was not updated from the time it worked properly since the time it started giving me issues.

I hope this info helps in solving the issue?

PS. The image colour stays washed out even after completing the send on both WhatsApp and Skype. (What I'm trying to say is: It's not just dull in the preview before sending as shown in the example below.)

As you're comparing the color output from Photoshop with Whatsapp, please note that both apps work on different color profiles and the Photoshop image you're currently viewing on your desktop is set to a different color space. This is a mere color profile issue, please check out this article for more info: Set up color management
