I have a psd file that I am trying to paste a jpeg image onto it and photoshop will not allow me to copy and paste a jpeg image onto the psd image.  Is it possible to do and how do I do it.

Are you opening the jpg in Photoshop to copy it, or are you trying to copy and paste between different programs? If different programs, where are you copying the jpg from?

What happens when you try this?

Open both documents in Photoshop.

Drag and drop the JPEG into the PSD or do a Select All>Copy>(JPEG) then Paste into the PSD; there is no reason it wouldn't work but deepening on your color settings and the documents, you may get a warning of a mismatch.

Thedigitaldog is correct. But if you have to copy and paste it you will first add a layer.

I tried this a numbr of times and a number of ways while being assisted by Adobe technical support and the jpeg image does not get pasted.  If I change the psd image to a jpeg it does work.

Can you add a new layer to the PSD and then use Image > Apply Image and set the open JPEG file as the source doc with the PSD and new layer as the destination?

Or Layer menu > Duplicate and select the other document as the destination/target.

Can you provide screenshots? There must be a reason but this doesn't make sense in saving the PSD as JPEG, is the PSD 8bpc?
