Copy-pasting image results in a completely blank layer

Just upgraded to 24.2. I use Select > Subject, touch up the selection in Quick Mask, copy it and when I paste it into another document, expecting to get the image I copied, I get a new layer with no pixels in it at all. A quick Google led me to try disabling "Multithreaded compositing" in Settings > Performance, but that didn't change anything. Nothing is locked, no layer masks, just frustration.

I'm not able to replicate the issue.

Are the pixels you want selected when you choose Copy?

You could try resetting preferences.

Image A is where I want to paste Image B - I select subject in Imabe B with CTRL+C, I return to Image A and hit CTRL V and get a blank layer, I take a different image - Image C (just for testing), I selcet subject and then CTRL+C adn then return to Image A and hit CTRL V and it pastes the image.> Okay, so the problem is with Image B. I go back and select it again - CTRL C I take a new image (Image D and I hit CTRL V and it works fine. Only Image B going to Image A does nothing.

I can not replicate either on Windows so its on your machine, not a bug. Try with preference reset as suggested Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com) Try using drag and drop or manual method, if reseting does not help you can drag folder back where it was and restore previous preferences.

You're sure you're not copying from an adjustment layer? Happens to me all the time.

Thank you for your rapid response! I did reset the preferences, I also tried copy-pasting from other images. Nothing worked. I actually re-installed the previous version (23.5.4) and that solved it. Thanks again!

Thank you for the quick reply, I thought I might get an answer in a few days/weeks/months. Re-installing the previous version (23.5.4) solved it. But I'll keep this in mind for next time. Thanks again!

Hi @PaulaG0512 sorry to hear this.

Would it be possible for you to share a video of your workflow so we all can see what you are seeing?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thank you,

Cory

@PaulaG0512

For testing purposes, do you get the image when you make a selection then use Cmd+J to copy it to a new layer?

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling with the Adobe CC cleaner tool. That tool can sometimes fix problems that do not get fixed with a regular uninstall/reinstall.

Instead of Copy and Paste, try dragging the layer with the pixels into the other document.

I don't think Photoshop has a command in the View menu for Display Preformance. Are you thinking of InDesign?

Me too! trying to guide students through a complicated project and this happened. Checked to see if any adjustment layers were in the way.  Perhaps Adobe should rebrand the software to "Bugshop"?
