Corrupted Photoshop file? All layers have disappeared

One of my photoshop files suddenly lost all the layers. When I open the file I can only see a background layer with weird colors on it (below screenshot).
The file size is correct so it's like all the content is there but the file is possibly corrupted?
I have never had this type of issue. Any ideas?

I have heard of tools that claim to repair PSD files. I have not used any.

Do you have autosave on?

The following articles give some guidance on restoring a PSD through an autosaved version and a repair tool.
