Could not complete your request because of a program error

I am finding it impossible to open an image. When I try I get this message.

Screenshot.jpg

I can't even close Photoshop because I get the same message.

I have the latest Photoshop 22.0.0 on Windows 10

I have reset my preferences and worked through most of the fixes.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it.

The program is useless if I can't open an image.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of a fix?

I did this and it seemed to work

sing the Preferences dialog
  • Open Photoshop's Preferences:

    macOS

    • Photoshop > Preferences > General

    Windows

    • Edit > Preferences > General
  • Click Reset Preferences On Quit

  • Click OK in the dialog that asks "Are you sure you want to reset preferences when quitting Photoshop?"

  • Quit Photoshop.

Try with solutions mentioned here https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html#ProgramErroropeningfiles

If you have graphic card older than 4 years it probably won't work. Do not ask me why.

Hi Bojan. So are you saying that if my computer is more than four year's old the latest version of photoshop won't work on it?

Hi Ian. Yes, I'm having the same problem. So I'm wondering if the message from "Bojan" is true. If your computer or graphic card is older than four years, then the latest version of Photoshop won't work on it. If so, this is very frustrating to find out after you've signed up for the software.

I am not saying Photoshop won't work but rather some functionality will be limited or not available.

Finally here is what Adobe says on official page:

Finally, if none of the above suggestions help, roll back to the previous version of Photoshop.

Thanks Bojan. Very frustrating and I'm downloading Photoshop for the first time, so I don't have a previous version of Photoshop. Not sure what to do, apart from buying a new computer.

Do you have Creative Cloud Desktop app? If you are on trial mode then additional options or previous version may not be available to you.

Yes, I do have the desktop app as I've paid a subscription. I just downloaded the other versopm 21.2.4 and it does the same thing. Looks like I'll have to buy a new computer or try to investigate some of the software options which seem a bit tricky for someone not expert a IT stuff like me. It should just work, it is disappointing.

21.2.4 should work fine. Try to reset preferences and see if that help something. To reset preferences follow instructions from official page https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset_preferences
