Hello,

I've been working all day on a PSD file, but my computer suddenly crashed. When it booted back up, I tried opening the file again and I keep getting an error that says:

"Could not complete your request because the disk is not available."

I can open other files on the same folder/disk just fine, just not this one. Is there a way I can repair this file?

@default31859426xz2qaq is the disk/location a local file or external/network drive?

It is a local file, on my E drive.

For reference, here are a few things i've tried (but to no success)

- move the file to another drive

- open it on a completely different computer

- open it on Acrobat

- repair the file via 4ddig

- auto recovery folder was empty

I also noticed all my photoshop preferences had been reset.

Sounds like a pretty significant crash on your OS if the system preferences were reset too. The file may be beyond help if it crashed while saving.

The only way you'd get that error is if

1. you are trying to open it from the home screen/recent files

or

2. you have linked objects (such as a smart object) that are unavailable.

Do you get a different error if you move it or using a different computer?

1.. I tried opening from home screen - I can see from the thumbnail that the file has actually saved but clicking on it does absolutely nothing.

2. I don't think I have linked objects, any images I put in have been rasterized (if there were any)

3. Opening it on a different pc gives the same error message.

I have had exactly the same issue. Anyone know how I can recover this file, or at least a preview of it?

Try opening in Photoshop with the shift + opt/alt keys down to see if the merged composite is available.

Try other Adobe software. Lightroom, Bridge Export, placing the file into InDesign or Illustrator etc.

Try 3rd party software.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.

Can you explain how to open the merged composite please?

Use File > Open from Photoshop.

Navigate to and select the file.

Hold the shift + opt/alt keys down when you press OK to open the selected file.

Press OK to "Read the composite data instead".

Do you have a backup of your file? Do you use cloud services like iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc?
