Create smart object, but keep layers

Up front, I am not an expert.

I've read about how to create a smart object from multiple layers.

However, as far as I can see, it will also remove the 'source' layers (11).

I prefer to leave the source layers and make them invisible.

Next time I could make changes to those source layers, create a new smart object, whilst deleting the existing one.

Q: Is there a way to create a smart object from layers, whilst leaving the source layers in place?

It packs them into the Smart Object, where they still exist. 

So if you want to edit them open the Smart Object, do so and save it. 

• If you want a second version of the Smart Object you can use Layer > Smart Objects > New Smart Object via Copy to create a second one. 

• You could also create multiple Layer Comps in one Smart Object and apply the Layer Comps to multiple instances of the same Smart Object via the Properties Panel.

You could also create an Action (Layer > New > Layer Via Copy, Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object) that duplicates the Layers before smartyfying them.

Indeed, just simply copy the layers and create a smart object then.
That went fine.
