Created specialized font and can't save and use it

Complete newbie here...Went through painstaking process of creating a great gold font....problem is I can finish creating it but don't seem to be able to save for reuse.  Tried making a paragraph style, no luck.  Tried saving as new character, no luck. Please help!

Just for clarity: How did you create this special appearance?

Did you create it with layer styles? Then save the style as a new style.

Did you create it in a different way, please provide a screenshot of your picture and the layer panel with all layers visible.
