Creating path is very time consuming

Hi team,

 

We usually work on realestate images and we have to create a selection path for each object available in the room. For example, fan, sofa, carpet, wall etc etc. 

 

So it is taking a lot of time to create a path and take selection. The object selection tool not at all works and it hardly saves my time. 

 

Please help me how can I automate this process and how can I take path of each object with less time.

Drawing paths around the pixels that make up an object such as a fan, sofa, carpet, wall, etc., does take time. You didn't mention your skill level, but it takes less time for those who are skilled with Bézier paths. You might find some tutorials to confirm that you are drawing them efficiently.

 

May I ask why you need to have paths around every object in the room? That's not a workflow I've heard before.

Hi All,

Thank you for your replies. So how it works basically, customer provide us the color code for each object and we have to make a selection of each object and fill that color. I am attaching the sample file and you can see how we have created path for each objects.

Select a Path, and Layer  > New Fill Layer > Solid Color.

Right. One way would be to use the Free Form Path tool, with the Magnetic option selected.

"Clipping" as we refer to it in the retouching industry is really the only way to make high-quality isolations in Photoshop, and unfortunately it's the one feature we haven't had an upgrade for in, well, pretty much the lifetime of the program.

All the alledgedly magical selection tools fall 10-20% short of making masks for high-res commercial work. They just won't get there. And if you spend the time to try and force them to get there, you'll spend way more time than it would take to sit down and clip something out.

Believe me, I've tested all the methods countless times, hoping they've improved.

Select and Mask feels just about useless these days. I feel like it worked at some point, but I can barely force the Refine Edge tool to occasionally improve a mask.

It's sad that the vector tools in Photoshop are seen as the lowest priority for improvements, while they are fundamental to professional work.

 

The perception seems to be, why would we invest in vector tools in Photoshop when we have Illustrator?! And the usage probably supports it - the majority of average users would probably never touch the pen tool, while the minority of professional users rely on it fundamentally.

So until we are able to convince someone in the Photoshop team that the pen tool isn't for drawing, it's for masking, we will be stuck doing it the 30-year-old way we've all become accustomed to.

Sorry Ankit, you're not doing it wrong, it's the just best we've got 🙂
