in your case press (longer) on the 5 icon from above and change from PERSPECTIVE CROP TOOL to CROP tool.

Tanja, I unmarked mine as correct so one of yours can be marked. I don't care about points.

i normaly do not care either.

but this is the 20st time or so i noticed this... so i do wonder if because of my sometimes harsh critics against adobe some mods here are biased.

Tanja2014, that has to be frustrating! Sometimes a post goes into the moderation queue until a moderator approves it (which is usually quick). I wonder if that is happening to you? If you think it is, pm me.

This just helped me. Once I made a selection, it let me crop it. Thanks!

This does not work for me.

Also, I have no way of getting out of the usless, unwanted crop tool.

What I want is the system you used to have which allowed me to choose standard ratios(1:1, 3:4, 4:5, 5:7, &c).

I just found out it is the workspace!

When in 3D space working on 2D Crop is grayed out.
Changed from 3D to Essentials and all was well.
Hope this helps!

I had the same issue and here's what I did. Selected the object. then went to Object-->Rasterize. Once Rasterizing was complete, I went back to the object menu and "Crop" was no longer greyed out. I could select CROP and FINALLY crop my  photo.

Hope this helps! (If you were still looking!)
