My crop tool is stuck on a fixed proportion and I can't figure out how to get it back to normal. It happened once before and the solution is so simple, its pitiful, I just don't remember. Can someone help? CS4-64bit

Wth the crop tool selected, in the tool options bar,
click Clear.
If you mean the Rectangular Marquee Tool, in the tool options bar,
where it says style, change that to normal.

In my case, (Mac CS5), I was unable to find "Clear" anywhere. The solve was to erase the width and height cells at the top left of the menu bar when the crop tool is selected.

Hi paxfax,
You are looking at question that was posted on 03 July 2010, and it is now 2020. Photoshop has had a few changes in the past ten years. 😊 What you did is fine — you can also reset the tool by right-clicking it in the options bar (not the Toolbar) and choosing Reset Tool.

Or...with the crop tool selected, look in the tool bar next to the crop tool symbol. It will say something like "custom." You want "unconstrained."
