Adobe only made it available for existing CS2 license holders to download.

I read on Gizmodo that it was available for free and on the Adobe page you could find serial numbers to use. Thanks for the reply.

Then the article you read apparently conveys a falsehood.

In any case Photoshop CS2 did not even feature Smart Filters, so if you want to become an image editing professional it should in my opinion not be considered a serious option anymore.

Maybe it was not an outright lie, but a misunderstanding, still the claim is incorrect.
