Delayed Refresh/Screen Lag?

New Here ,
May 12, 2020 May 12, 2020

I am using a purchased action on a relatively small file (1500px x 1800 px @ 200dpi) which is only 8MB in size.  I have 16GB of RAM on a MAC with basically only PS CC2020 running.

After I run the action, when I zoom into the file it zooms in quickly, but zooming out again takes a long time.  The same is true when I make modifications to the different layers to change colours, etc.  I have to click them on and off a few time to get the changes to be put into effect.

Normally, when I do this the changes are displayed instantaneously and with larger files.  Any ideas what may cause this?  The complexity of the layers?  I was wondering if there was a ‘universal refresh’ command/key in PS?

The action is definitley finished when you are zooming and this doesn't happen with any other files? What is the action doing? Can you post a screenshot?

Hi, thank you for your reply.  The action has definitely finished.  Below is a screen shot on another image.  This one is only 72dpi.  Essentially, the action is turning the raster into a vector looking image.Screenshot 2020-05-13 08.09.11.png

I should have also said it appears to happen on every image I use and I have modified sizes and resolutions.

After action is performed and you save the image, (then relaunch Photoshop and) reopen image, is there still problem with zooming out?

I will try that.  What I did today was zoom in, locked the computer and went to work for seven hours.  When I logged back on I was able to turn layers on and off and zoom in and out.  As I was making my way through turning each of the group on and off,   PS crashed.  I have the image back up and it appears to be working ok?

Here is what I did:

Open an existing PSD, applied the action and then attempted to save it when I got the first error message Screenshot 2020-05-13 15.26.00.png

I then opened the same PSD, renamed it and did the same thing.  I also got the same error message.  I tried to save the PSD at 1 minute intervals for five minutes and got the same error message.

I then locked and unlocked, the screen and attempted to save the file.  This time I got another error message (see below)

Screenshot 2020-05-13 15.38.10.png

I then locked and unlocked the screen again, attempted to save the file and once again received the same error message.  This time I put the computer to sleep, but still got the same error message when I attempted to save the file.

I hve tried exporting the file to .jpg and, interestingly, it will go throught the motions of an export to .JPG, but it doesn't actually export a file.

I can do a combine all visible layers and then create a new file from the layer via the duplicate layer commands.  PS then lets me export that file as a .jpg

I tried an Export As to see if I could export it as a png and then got this

after all that and typing this up...I still can't save the file 🙂

When turning the layers on and off now I discover I can only zoom in and out to one point of view.  It is not so much a zoom in as a strech of the image

The good news is that I aapeared to have figured out what is causing the problem, but the why is stil a puzzle.  There is one layer that if deleted or even double clicked makes everything work.

If you will be able to save the file, attach it here, or the initial version before playing action, plus the action, so others can try that too and tell you the results.
