Delete a part of a transparent image

Hi Friends,

I have a vector image (png) that has a transparent background. I want to remove a part of that image. How do I do that and preserve transparency?

That’s oxymoronic, png is not a vector format. 

Please post the image in question or at least a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible. 

Try applying a Layer Mask to the Layer.

Forgive my ignorance on the vectors.

I want to remove the head and body but keep the rest.

• Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All 

• paint out or use the Selection Tool to hide the parts you want to remove by making them black in the Layer Mask

Thanks for responding. Ok I'm good with Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All 

But from there I need help. I make the selection but not sure I understanding turning the selection to black?

Please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible. 

If the Layer Mask is selected then setting the foreground color to black (D and X) and hitting alt-delete should fill the selection with black.

Note: images can't be a vector image. Vector formats are different like eps, ai, svg etc..

In your case open png image in photoshop and remove background part. It's a very easy process.
