Yep, same here 7 years later. Now the delete key doesn't delete unless you command delete. [cursing removed] Make the new feature be the command delete, don't be like apple and change a keystroke that worked for 30 years.

@PatrickInSeattle You are working on a Background layer, which is a specific type of layer in Photoshop and cannot have transparency. Delete therefore does what it always has with a background layer and opens the Fill dialogue. If you want to delete to transparency, first click the lock symbol in the layer panel to change the layer from a Background layer to an ordinary layer (Layer 0). Delete will then delete the pixels on that layer.

@PatrickInSeattle , please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for more timely and effective answers”):

Deleting works as previously in Photoshop so please post a meaningful describtion of your actual problem with meaningful screenshots or, better yet, a screen recording including all pertinent Panels

I did a screen recording, attached a lo rez at the bottom. Here's the screenshots and explanation:

Full window:

Selection made:

This comes up when I hit delete, as in I take my finger and press the delete key.

After I dismiss that dialogue, because I don't want to Fill anything, I just want to delete it, I press command-delete and this is the result: (What I would expect when pressing just the delete key.)

So the question remains, is there some setting somewhere that needs to be changed to make delete, delete and not mean Fill? I haven't gone in anywhere and asked PS to change the behavior of the delete key. Last week delete meant delete, how do I change it back to meaning delete? Is it simply a bug?
