Hi @t_FM curious if this works for you?

Try the following:

  1. Go to Preferences/Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas" - Restart Photoshop.
  2. If you hold down the Alt key when you select Filter > Liquify... does it work correctly without crash?

Hi @t_FM your iMac (Late 2013) came with an Nvidia GeForce GT 755M graphics card.

That does not meet minimum recommendations starting with PS 2022.

The minimum GPU speed recommended in 2022 (v 23.x) is 2,000 ops sec. Your 755M tops out at 779 ops/sec.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cc-gpu-card-faq.html#min-gpu-requirements

Also the max available VRAM out of the box was either 1 GB or 2 GB configurations.

Adobe recommends 4 GB GPU with a minimum of 1.5 GB.
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements/2022.html

Both of these put you at a disadvantage when trying to do GPU heavy processes like Liquify.
