document windows block photshop interface

hi there,

document windows block the adobe photoshop cc interface. if i use keyboard shortcuts to enlarge the panel then it snaps to available workspace. but if i move the document window (to get to a window behind for example) that document sits on top of the adobe photoshop interface and blocks whatever its sitting on top of including the menu, the layers panel and the tools panel.

never seen this before - am i missing a setting somewhere?

latest version of photoshop cc on windows 10.

Did you try reseting workspace? It is a drop down in upper right of PS. See screen shot. Either reset or pick a different workspace

Yup, that was one of the first things I tried. I've also reset preferences and uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop. This is not a behavior I've seen on any other machine... can't seem to find any links where people have had a similar problem either.

The document windows are able to block any interface element that's photoshop specific. they don't cover the start menu though...

For the record, I'm on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and I'm using an Nvideo gtx 1080 ti graphics card with the latest drivers installed.

Did this start  happening after a Windows update?

Nope. This has been happening since I built this computer in January. My Creative Cloud was preivously used on a Mac though... but that shouldn't affect anything. Like I said, I've reset all workspaces, reset preferences, and uninstalled then reinstalled Photoshop...

This is just odd... Must be missing something somewhere...

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.

Tried both of these things already with no change. Not sure how the video driver would affect Photoshops windows and nothing else on the computer but I figured it was worth a shot. Had zero effect.

It still looks like a graphics card/driver problem. Disable the GPU use to see if that helps. Disabling the GPU will, however, disable some of the filters, so it is not a solution only a test.

I did try disabling the GPU inside of Photoshop and the problem still exists.

What about this makes you think that it's a graphics driver problem though? There are no glitches. Everything else works fine. All other Adobe CC programs are working as expected as well.. Obviously I'm looking for a solution to the problem and appreciate any insight. Just wondering why you think it's driver related?

Most problems with Photoshop like this seem to be graphics driver related.

Just noticed this behavior only happens when the panels are docked for some reason.

If I undock the layers panel then it floats above the document window as expected. But the document window can still block the options bar and Photoshop menu.

Not sure if this is a fix... Is there something else I might be missing?

I think you confused me by editing the Photoshop windows and blanking out the content?

Disabling the GPU use is always a good test to do and as Peru Bob​ says, anything display related is probably a graphics card/driver problem.

Hi there,

I had the same issue and it turned out I had to change the following setting:

Click "Edit" at the top of Photoshop

Then click "Preferences" (which is at the VERY bottom of the Edit tab- you might have to scroll all the way down)

Then click "Workspace"

Then make sure there is a checkmark next to "Enable Floating Document Window Docking".

Then click "Ok".

Making sure that was checked on, made the windows in photoshop no longer block the interface, even though it took me over a year to figure it out.
