Double-Clicking to Select Object Not Working [Photoshop 2023]

After updating to Photoshop 2023 [Mac OS Monterey], double-clicking on an object no longer selects it to move or transform. What used to be a very intuitive workflow is now clunky and frustrating. I now have to first select the layer in the panel on the right, then use CTRL-T to transform each object instead of just double-clicking on it in the window to select it. Is there a setting that can be fixed to get this functionality back?

Thanks in advance...

I do not remember double clicking enters free transform mode. Perhaps you had different options for the Move tool in the Options bar. Try checking Auto Select > Layer and Show Transform Controls. Single click on content will automatically select layer and show you transform controls.
