I'm on CS6 so maybe it's different, but I go to the layer effect "Drop Shadow," right-click, and choose "Make Layer.' and it becomes its own layer.

Thank you for the suggestion but There is no make layer.

In earlier versions it was possible. I know it can be done in this version
but I just can't figure out how.

Again, Thank you.

I still have it. It's called "Create Layer."

The create layer will just create a new blank layer. If I do that how do I get the dropped shadow in it? I want to be able to move the shadow separate from the picture. There is no create layer in the drop shadow.

I appreciate the help but I really need to find a way to separate the drop shadow from the picture and give it its own layer.

Thank you,

John

So you're right-clicking on the drop shadow under "FX" on the layer you added it to? This should bring the dropdown menu.

I got the drop down shadow but I want it in a separate layer so I can move it independently. Perhaps I want to lay the shadow down or move it. I can't do that unless it's in its own layer. I know it can be done I just don't know how to do it. So my question is: How do I move the dropdown shadow to it's own layer in photoshop CC build 21.1.2.

Again, Thank you for helping me.

Thank you very much. Until I closed and reopened PS that menu never appeared which was why I couldn't see the create layer. I left and right clicked on it many times and got nothing... no menu at all.

Again, thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it.
