Drop Shadow

Drop Shadow is possible in two ways.

1) Straight away going to Drop shadow.

2) Going to Color Overlay and choosing Blur Gallery.

 

Is there any difference between these two methods?

Using drop shadow, rather than creating an effect with blur,  allows you to choose local or global lighting direction and height. Choosing global means that by altering the global light direction/height, the drop shadow will change across several layers each using its own drop shadow effect but with the same global light. So for example it is easy to change all drop shadows, across several layers, from falling to the bottom left, to fall to the bottom right, with just one change to the global li

Turning Global Light off allows the shadows of different layers to go in different directions:

As explained above, unchecking global light allows a different direction for every shadow. Checking global light keeps the same 'global' direction for all shadows and , importantly, allows you to adjust the direction on all drop shadows using global light, by opening any of them and making a single adjustment to that global light.

Thanks for the explanation. I couldn't see much difference whether I selected Global Light or not. What is the important of this option?
