Edit Contents of AI SO not working in PS

Using PS 22.1.1 and AI 25.2.

After pasting an object from AI as an SO, choosing Edit Contents does nothing.

Is there something I'm missing? Doing nothing different than what I've done with past releases.

When you double click on a vector smart object layer's content thumbnail in the layers palette. Photoshop should create a temp Work File for the object in your user id temp space. Then Photoshop will through the file over the wall to your Operating system to have it Pass the file to the Application associated with that File's extension. I do not install Adobe  Illustrator so that would not be the Application that would be Passed  the work file Photoshop Created. 

 

Does Adobe Photoshop create the Work File in your user Id  Temp Space?  Does amy application open to process the work file if Photoshop Created the work file? If not did Photoshop create the temp work file for the smart object layers object content.  On my system you can see that Adobe Photoshop created the temp work file and that file was passed to Google Chrome. Double Click or Edit Content.

I have no idea what a user ID Temp Space is. On a Mac, I choose Edit Contents and since the SO comes from AI, AI opens the file . But not now.

I use windows so I do not know how a Mac user associates a file type like .SVG and .AI to an application. If you know how to make sure file type SVG and AI are associated with Adobe Illustrator.
