Eraser Tool - Color vs transparent

Now that the eraser tool is working, it is only clearing to transparent. Can't get it to erase with a color. What am I doing wrong?

Just to expand on c.pfaffenbicchlers, correct, answer.

The eraser tool works two ways.

On a background layer the eraser tool paints with the currently set background colour

On a normal layer, the eraser clears the pixels

Did you previously erase on a Background Layer?

If you want to paint with white instead of erasing you I think should just use the Brush Tool.
