Eraser won't drag

My eraser tool will not allow me to click and drag and consecutively erase a line. I'll click to erase what I want and it'll erase where my tool is placed, but when I hold and try to drag it, it will not erase. I have to keep clicking on my mouse in tiny incriments to erase anything...

Hi Emma,

@Emma293996466ga3

I see that your post got moved to the Photoshop forum before you were able to reply to the question asking which app you are using. It could also be Illustrator, Photoshop Elements, Acrobat, or one of several other apps.

If it is Photoshop, do this:

  • Select the Eraser tool
  • Right-click the Eraser tool in the options bar (not the Tools panel)
  • Select Reset tool (or tools)

Are you using a mouse or a pen? If you are using a pen, which one?

If you are not using Photoshop, please let us know which app you are using.

How many pixels wide is your Eraser tool?

Which Opacity & Flow values are you using?

Are you using a Hard brush or a Soft one?

See Screenshot from Photoshop CC.

i don't see it, either. i think ps is the most used adobe app, but it's dwarfed by everything else when everything else is combined. ie, i think it's more likely not ps.

=========

No.  But I assumed by the description of the problem that the OP has selected the wrong type of Eraser brush, hence my screenshot from PS.

If I had moved it, I would have said so.  Since I didn't, evidently someone else did.  🙃

Or it could be Adobe Express (PS Express).

I have the same issue with Photoshop 22.5.1 under MacOS Ventura 13.3. I have the eraser in "Block" mode with 0% smoothing. The tool erases pixels on mouse click, but when dragging the erasure is sporadic - sometimes it works as expected, sometimes it won't erase at all during the drag, sometimes it erases at the beginning of a drag but then stops. Seems to be worse at higher zoom levels.

It's a brush problem NOT an earase problem.

If you switch to the brush you would experience the same thing.

The solution is to â€ƒchange the spacing in your brush setting and make sure it is at 1%.

That fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps.
