Error message from Photoshop 2025

Neu hier ,

I recently bought a new Apple MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.3.2, and went thru the migration process Apple provides from my old computer. I upgraded Lightroom Classic and Photoshop to the latest version.  My problem - when I try to use "Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2025" from LIghtroom Classic the Photoshop 2025 application launches and gives me an error message "Could not open "IMG_1070.CR3" because of a disk error".  Using my old computer this process operated seemlessly.  Any ideas on how to solve this mystery?

Can you see the thumbnail in Bridge or Lightroom?

I assume this is the case with all .CR3 files?  If not, then what size are the files on the drive? i.e. are they as l;arge as you'd expect them to be?

Are they from the same camera?

If you open Edit > Camera RAW Preferences, what version number are you seeing?

All pictures are available to view and edit in Lightroom.

I assume this is the case with all .CR3 files?  If not, then what size are the files on the drive? i.e. are they as l;arge as you'd expect them to be?

The .CR3 files are from my Canon Powershot GX5 Mark II camera.  I get similar error message when trying to edit a Nikon .NEF file.

File dimensions from Canon are 5472 x 3678 with Nikon being 6000 x 4000

Are they from the same camera?

As noted above I have the Canon and Nikon cameras.  I tried to edit older files from prior years and I get the same error message.

If you open Edit > Camera RAW Preferences, what version number are you seeing?

Don’t understand this question.  In Lightroom? I don’t see it.  In Photoshop “Settings” I see Camera Raw Preferences (Version 17.2.0.2155).

Hi @barryg40356367,

Thanks for sharing these details, and apologies for the delayed response! If I’m understanding correctly, you’re trying to open a file in Photoshop from Lightroom using the "Edit in Photoshop 2025" option, but you’re encountering this disk error. To help us better understand and troubleshoot the issue, could you please share a few more details?

  • Where is the file currently saved (e.g., internal drive, external drive, cloud storage)?

  • Are you able to open the same file directly in Photoshop using File > Open, instead of going through Lightroom?

This information will help us get a clearer picture of what’s going on and provide more accurate assistance.

Regards,

Srishti

Photos are saved on external drive.  I use Lightroom initially and edit in Photoshop 2025 and get the same message even if I open the photo directly in Photoshop.  The attached shows the message I just got by opening the file directly in Photoshop, editing the photo and then try saving in Photoshop.

AKTUELL

Hi @barryg40356367, thanks so much for sharing all the details and screenshots, that really helps!

Based on what you’ve described, it sounds like you’re encountering a known issue on macOS where Lightroom Classic’s “Edit in Photoshop” command ends up opening a backup copy of Photoshop, especially if you’ve used backup utilities like Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper!

This often leads to behaviors like macOS showing an “Application Moved” dialog, Photoshop launching but not opening the file from Lightroom Classic, and disk errors when trying to open or save files in Photoshop.

Here’s how you can fix this: Uninstall and reinstall Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic using the Creative Cloud app to ensure the correct version is referenced and no backup paths are involved.

Manually set the external editor in Lightroom Classic: Go to Lightroom Classic > Settings (Preferences) > External Editing. Under the Photoshop version, manually choose the correct, newly reinstalled Photoshop version.

Grant Full Disk Access to Photoshop & other Adobe apps. This ensures Photoshop can properly access files on external drives.

Here’s a quick guide: Give Full Disk Access to Photoshop on macOS

Let us know if this resolves the issue or if anything still seems off!

Best,

Anshul Saini
