When I try to run an action I get two error messages.
How do I install these so I can run the action?

Several Adobe applications have actions. Which app are you using? In Photoshop, for instance, you cannot make a new layer when the image is in Index mode. It has to be changed to RGB first.
Using the Community is for questions about the forums, but we are happy to move your post to the correct forum where you are more likely to get help.

You're welcome @MikeM77345 🙂
I took a chance and moved your post to the Photoshop forum, based on both my earlier comment and your earlier post in the Photoshop forum. Please confirm or we can move it again.
Please post screenshots that include your entire screen including your Layers and Actions panels. Resize the Actions panel taller and wider, and click the disclosure triangle so we can see all of the subsets of the action. Steps in Actions depend on something to exist that allows the step in the action to continue.
We are happy to move posts to a forum where they are more likely to get a reply. I also edited your post to add the Actions label for you.

The file has to conform to the action.
Look at the action panel step when the error occurs.
What is the action trying to do? Is it trying to select a layer that doesn't exist? Load a selection from a channel that doesn't exist?
Please post a screenshot with the action steps expanded with all error and relevant panels such as layers visible.

Hi, all action steps are individual, but each one has specific requirements. For instance, to add a layer mask, you must select a layer first; otherwise, that option will be grayed out. If you try to perform an action step without meeting its requirements, Photoshop will show an error message.
To help troubleshoot, ensure that the layers panel is expanded and visible. When you see an error message, capture a screenshot and post it here. You can stop the action and then take the screenshot.

Make layer is usually converting the Background layer to a normal layer. If you don't have the Background selected, it will throw an error.
Please post a screenshot showing the Actions panel, with the Action expanded to show all steps, and the workspace including Layers panel so we can see what you are working with.
