Exclude a tool from being recorded in Actions.

Hello, I've been trying to find a single post about the same issues I am having or anything similar. I've been trying to use the Actions feature for easy Procreate like recordings however it's difficult to make it work when rotate tool gets recorded too. Is there a way to disable it?

Can you post a cropped screenshot of the action panel with the recorded action set/action steps (action set and action fully expanded)?

It is possible to untick or delete individual action steps or to set their interactive modal control.

Of course I can!
I've deleted most of the rotation actions myself, the problem is that I don't want to be forced to manually delete those since that is extremely tedious and adds a lot of unnecessary work.

You can disable tool recording, but not specific tools.

The next obvious but unpalatable option is to not record them in the first place.

Otherwise xtools can be used to either edit the action or convert to script for find/replace editing.

Oh, I see. Sadly I can't really not use the actions since I don't have a second screen I could use for speedpaints

As for Xtools; I've never heard about it before. Is there some kind of tutorial for it? Perhaps something that a person with zero conding knowledge could do?

https://ps-scripts.sourceforge.net/xtools.html

It doesn't have to be as scary as it looks.

I have put two of the scripts into their own action. One converts an action into a script, and another one converts it into xml. I'm otherwise not very familiar with it.

The scripts are called...

ActionFileToJavascript.jsx
ActionFileToXML.jsx

and you can do the reverse too with other scripts included.

I would say deleting action steps is easier though 🙂

Yeah, actions can take longer to perfect than we initially think...

What are you actually talking about – rotating or the Rotate View Tool?

I can discern neither in your screenshot.

What are you recording in the Action exactly

Brush-work in Actions can be treacherous because the Brush Tip is not recorded …

Rotate View Tool; It is being recorded as 'Use rotate view' in actions. I'll attach a screenshot of what I am talking about.

As for what I am recording - It's a Procreate/Fresco/CPS stylized speedpaint. I was recommended by people to use Actions to achieve that however now that you have mentioned that it doesn't record brush tips I feel like it might not be the best idea.

You can record Brushes if you first make a tool out of them.

Below in the tools flyout you would have to keep this box unchecked though or the action won't find it if you're in the wrong current tool.

I'm very well aware of that! That's what I've done and it does switch between brushes and I believe they record the brush tip! The one big thing I've noticed is that it doesn't record the tip size changes in brushes.

Nevermind, apparently it does record the shape and size change!

Are you also aware of this option, and that you sometimes have to put the ruler to % to make things work for several documents?

Not saying this will record brush changes — I don't know.

You can record into the preset what size you want, but ok, you probably mean when you change it live... Yeah, it's not a "record everything" software — it could result in 90% junk and you were already complaining about the junk now 😉

Yikes I understand it...
Guess I'll have to find another way to get this recorded since the only plugin that pretty much added the same recording style from Procreate was abandoned. Either way thank you very much for the help! I appreciate it a lot!
