Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible?

How many Artboards does the file contain?

Have you restarted Photoshop yet?

I'm trying to convert a billboard advert to pdf so that I can upload it to the printers website for printing and this is the only format they accept.  Ive tried saving it as a jpg and then opening preview and converting to pdf but i'm getting a white border around the image.

Try Save as PdF instead. Pay close attention to your settings or it may print poorly and waste your money.

The Layers Panel in your screenshot does not seem to indicate the presence of an Artboard, so as others have stated you should probably create the pdf via Save As …

I've realised that I am unable to create an artboard using CMYK colour so looks like this isn't an option i'll be able to use.

Thanks so much for all your help!

More or less any pdf reader should be able to open the pdf regardless of the creation software, but there may be features that might not be able to be interpreted.

Which settings did you use?

Then there is something wrong For your friend, perhaps. A Photoshop PDF is a PDF which should open fine in Acrobat Reader. does it open for you in Reader?

Hi Matthew,

A Photoshop PDF is a PDF. You can still choose any of the .joboptions settings such as High Quality, Press Quality, etc., in addition to any .joboptions files you have already created.

Here is the Help file:

Save PDF files in Photoshop

There will also be a checkbox to preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities so that you can reopen it in PS.

Note that in Acrobat the layers do not convey. Some people lose their Photoshop layers when they save to PDF wrong. See this post on choosing the correct settings so that doesn’t happen to you.

I have the same problem, but pdf is not available as in the "save as" screen. The only option is to save the psd as a new name. Not other formats are available in the "save as" screen.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM.  You cannot save to a cloud (I didn't try Adobe though.  I was using "My Drive.") I click "My Computere" and the PDF option (and others) was available in "Save As."

I'm guessing that you don't actually have an artboard created within your Layers panel. But that's not a problem. Go to…

     File > Save As

and change the Format to "Photoshop PDF"

A couple of things...

  1. Are you sure you need to be exporting out a PDF from Photoshop? What do you need to use the file for?
  2. Also it might be a good idea to save your file as a native Photoshop file first (PSD) and then save a PDF. This way if you have any problems you can always return to the Photoshop file.

I've tried to do that with the same greyed out artboards to PDF issue, but the PDF won't open the file and it looks like it's like... Gone completely when I can open it. I use Adobe reader (most recent update version) and its still not giving me what I need/ So that won't work/doesn't help.
Is there anyone on this green earth know why Adobe PS greys out artboards to PDF option in the export menu?
