Exposure Adjustment Layer unavailable when adding a new image?

Community Beginner ,

I have noticed a change with Photoshop which is effecting my workflow and cannot understand what is happening. Previously I used to drag and image into a new document and then worked non destructively by adding various adjustment layers. Now I notice when I try to do this the exposure adjustment layer is unavailable. Also Black and white adjustment layer is not available. Has anyone else noticed this recently? How do I rectify this?

What colour mode is your image (check in Image > Mode)

Those adjustment layers are not available in Lab Color mode

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Photoshop forum so that proper help can be offered.
