Question

External disk not visible in scratch drive preferences in Photoshop on Mac

Have a new 4TB lacie drive formated in MAC OS extended that I want to use as a scratch drive. When I pull up photoshop preferences for scratch drive the only thing it shows is the internal drive. I tried adobe support but Amar just took me around in circles and didn't seem to understand my problem. Eventually he said Adobe didn't recomend using anything except internal drives for a scratch drive.  I'm frustrated because I know it must be something simple. Where do I go?

Hi Rodney,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop while trying to use your Lacie hard drive as scratch disk.

Would you mind checking the format of the drive you are using? Since you are using a Mac, then drive should be in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file format for it to be detected by Photoshop as a Scratch disk drive. You can also check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/scratch-disks-preferences.html

Let us know if this helps!

Regards,

Nikunj

It's formated in Mac OS Extended (journaled) and works for all other purposes.
