Where are the files

Did you try to open them by dragging them into the photoshop icon. I would open them in chunks of about 25 photos at a time.

Bummer it was just a work around I sometimes use.

Did you try rebooting the computer?

or run disk utility?

@Hawkmyster

It's odd that it works on the second try. For testing purposes only, can you double-click another file in Finder, such as Word or Excel or a PDF and see if they open on the first try or if you have to do it twice?

Are the other files in different folders? Again, for troubleshooting:

  • try copying a tiff to a folder where you can double-click the other types of files and see if you can double-click the tiff from there
  • try moving the current folder off the Desktop into Documents and see if it works now
  • try putting a psd into the current folder on the Desktop and see if double-clicking works for the psd

These may or may not work, but it is what I would be trying...

I'm trying to test if the issue is:

  • Photoshop
  • TIFFs
  • Settings on the Desktop
  • Settings on the folder
  • macOS

The odd part is that it works the second time and that you start by double-clicking the file and then get a message that said file cannot be found.

I'm running into this issue also. Double clicking wont work. Dragging and dropping into photoshop icon works, but so annoying.

Select and try Cmd i (Get Info) on the file. Go down to the "Open with..." section. Is the version of Photoshop you are using listed there? If not you may have to change it. Then click the "Change All" to be sure all PSDs and not just the one you selected open in Photoshop by double-clicking.
