Fill the selection, or an object with other cutout objects

Hi everyone, I wan't to fill a selection, for an example, a triangle with the bananas that I have photographed on a white background and cuted it out. I am doing this manually, but its really time consuming. Does anyone knows how can I speed up this process automatically? I've tried to fill this selection with "shift+backspace" shortcut, to fill it with a pattern that I've made with ''define pattern'' option. I've tried all the scripts ''symmetry fill'', ''brick fill''...doesn't seem to work. I've also tried to make a brush out of the cutout photo of banana, also doesn't seem to work. A brush made out of a cutout photo becomes transparent, and I don't want that. Does anyone knows how can I fill that triangle with a lot of those same cutout photos of a fricking banana? I' am working a few days just to figure it out.
I've uploaded how I've done it manually and I just need to make more of these, quicker.
Thanks 🙂

You could write a script the would place in an image file you select. The script would scale the smart object layer the fill the selection you have made then mask the scaled smart object  layer with the actives selection  you made so just that area would be filled in the selected area.  I do not think the fill would composite well with  the documents contents that was not selected. Patching an image is not that easy.  I have never seen triangle shaped bananas and triangle sizes and shape vary.

Did you tried to select the banana (make a rectangle selection around it) and go to Edit> Define Pattern?
Then you can draw a rectangle and give it a layer style Pattern Overlay.

Also, you can define it as a brush (change the brush setting if you need it to be random in size and position)

Pattern overlay is an interesting solution, I've learned something new, thanks 🙂 but it doesn't give enough randomness. A brush preset that I make out of a photo is transparent, really don't know why. This could be the perfect solution, since I can play with scattering and shape dynamics, but I get this transparent brush. Even if my opacity is on 100% and no with default brush settings.

Hi, what does not work with the symmetry fills? the fact that all the fills have the same size? the fact that it is not random enough?

@Chuck Uebele could any of your scripts works in this case?

And shape can have pattern fills so you can have triangle patterns that can be rotated  its enough to drive one bananas.

Cross weave pattern fill is giving me some nice results. Not finished yet, but its going where I want so I don't go BANANAS! 😄MRKY7032..2b.jpg
