Font not rendering properly in PDF

New Here ,
Oct 12, 2017 Oct 12, 2017

Hello,

When I save my document as PDF, the part of the text becomes missing or "corrupt". There are only text layers and a background layer which is at the bottom of the layers so therefore could not be any of the text layers.

Please see the image here: help — Postimage.org

As you can see on the 'manufacturing' part of it is missing or outlined. This is only once I render it as a PDF. It does not happen as a JPEG, PNG or can see it in the PSD itself. My document colour settings are CMYK as it is for a brochure.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

As you have not even mentioned the Photoshop version you use please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for quicker answers"):

http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2325

One possible work-around for the issue is converting the Type Layers to Shape Layers (Type > Convert to Shape).

While there are differences between Vector Shapes and Type content it should be negligible as regards print quality, both output as vector data ultimately as far as print is concerned.

I didn't realise I could post images directly into the post sorry.

I just exported it as a JPEG and it was ok so it must be something with my settings?

Here are my PDF settings:

In addition to c.pfaffenbichler's request: What are your parameters saving the PDF file. What utility do you use to read the PDF file?

Why CC 2015 and not CC 2017?

Could you post screenshots of the file and pdf?

I recall similar-sounding issues in older versions but I am not sure if/when they were fixed.

Shift the text layers to the top, graphics below. (as c.pfaffenbichler's question suggests).

Layer composite is Normal? Opacity 100%?

Things you could still try (just to note the reaction of the pdf save):

  • switching off layers temporary. does the problem go away with a specific layer switched off?
  • moving the problematic layer to the left/up/down/to the right. Does the problem follow the layer?
  • changing the font

Can you provide the file for testing?

Feel free to change the text to »Lorem ipsum« if it’s sensitive.

Thank you very for much for your reply and my delayed response - I've been busy! Still no luck, tried all of the above thanks Abambo! It does follow the layer correct.

I have uploaded the PSD for you to have a look at, any help is greatly appreciated! It still showed deficiencies in the text when changed to lorem ipsum.

I saved your file, but unfortunately I do not have your fonts. But it works with the substituted fonts:

this is Acrobat:

I printed. It worked fine. May be, you could also post the corresponding PDF?

Thanks Abambo for the reply! I've uploaded the PDF for you to have a look at when I use the font. The font i'm using is Montserrat Light which is available for free from google fonts here: Google Fonts

The booklet I am doing is over 20 pages long and the font throughout is fine apart from a few pages. I'm wondering whether it is how I am exporting PDFs etc.

Take a look at what my PDF renders like (note that the and as well as a few other characters look bolder): https://ufile.io/h7rp0

Thanks a lot!

I've looked into your PDF. I've seen the "bolder" characters and the reason for this:

For some reason it seams to me that the PDF "doubles" some areas (I've edited ayour PDF and moved the lower part of the text:

If, however, you go very high in display zoom, this will not show up as a problem, which let me think, that it is a display artefact at lower resolutions.

Still analysing your and my PDF to see the differences.

Hi Abambo Thanks for your reply! I can see that the doubled words are ok in high res. However one of my words is partly missing but there is however an outline of the font? Please look at the screenshot:

Thank you for all of your help so far I really appreciate it.

Could you please post a hard copy using the test text. With me, the text renders fine...

...which let's me tink about a problem with your computer/graphics card  and not the PDF file.
