Formatting help

Hi guys,

So I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. But I'm having a biit of trouble trying to decipher a client's requested dimensions for a project. See here:

-- The 1st copy:

Please choose (1) option that fits the original picture best, either Landscape or Portrait with the following format:

Landscape:

  • Aspect Ratio: 1.91:1
  • Sizing: 1080px x 608px

Portrait :

  • Aspect Ratio: 4:5
  • Sizing: 1080px 1350px

The 2nd copy:

A print version copy for a 24x36 print (needs to be no less than 25% scale of the actual print size at 1000dpi). The image should also be scaled for print at 6"x9".

Attached you will also find an example of an image we have done before. This is just to give you an idea of what we are looking for.

Please maintain the same background, figures and colors from the original image in your re-creation!

Preferred file type is JPG Format. ---

If anyone can offer some insight, I would be more than grateful as I am pretty much self taught on the program and still have trouble determining file dimensions at times.

Thank you,

Re Item 1

Here is a link to various devices, their aspect ratios and dimensions in pixels:

https://blog.hootsuite.com/social-media-image-sizes-guide/

1.91:1 ratio might be 1200 x 627 px

What does your customer what you to produce with these dimensions?

(I couldn't see an attachment)

Hi Dereek,

Thanks for your reply!

The client wants me to turn an photograph into a digital oil painting. The dimensions are what confuses me. 🙂

1st Copy:

Portrait :

  • Aspect Ratio: 4:5
  • Sizing: 1080px 1350px

2nd Copy (which is the one that really confuses me)

A print version copy for a 24x36 print (needs to be no less than 25% scale of the actual print size at 1000dpi). The image should also be scaled for print at 6"x9".

Dealing with the 1st one (oil painting), is it for screen use, such as a website or is it to be printed (a photoprint)?

By the way, I can understand why you are confused!

A 4 x 5 aspect ratio at say 1080 px on one dimension, would have to have the other dimension of 863px (not 1350px).

Yes,

I believe it's for screen use. The second one would be formatting the 1st one for print.

The second one, the print version copy for a 24x36, is that inches?

The original at 1080px 1350px is too lower resolution to enlarge for a printing at around  24 x 36 inches. You customer needs to supply a higher resolution original.

Thanks for your input, Derek.

Currently, I am oil painting the original image from scratch - as my client wants this done without me using Photoshop's oil painting filter. So I am drawing at a canvas sized 24 x 36 (inches) and then planning to scale it down to 1080px x 1350 px.
