Fuzzy and Pixelated Social Media Posts on Mobile

Hello, I have created some social posts in Photoshop, and then my collegue posted them on Instagram and Facebook using her phone. Once posted, the graphics look extremely fuzzy and pixelated on mobile, but look OK on desktop. This does not happen for every social post I make, just some of them. I've tried exporting the images differently, and there is no change. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on the matter. See mobile screenshot below to view the fuzziness in all its glory, particularly around the text areas.

In case you want to view the original image before it's uploaded to IG, here it is exported at 2048 px x 2048 px.

Hi there,

Since you are uploading the images to Social media sites like Instagram and Facebook, there would be compression when the images are uploaded to the respective servers which may result in the image losing quality.

You can try to export the images at a higher resolution and then check if that helps.

I've tried exporting larger files and smaller files, neither seem to help. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You can change the resolution of the image by going to the Image menu > Image Size and then try the export at maximum quality.

Moreover, if the image appears sharp on the computer then any loss in quality you observe after the upload would be due to the compression the image it going through.

The best Instagram image sizes for posts are:

• 1080px by 1080px (Square) 
• 1080px by 1350px (Portrait) and 
• 1080px by 608px (Landscape).

Non-standard image sizes are up-scaled or downscaled at the server level which can produce hideous results.

Facebook feed ad and shared link image:

1200 x 628 pixels.

Thanks Nancy, because I have to make the same graphic for our Twitter, Facebook and IG accounts, I usually make one image at 1200px x 1200px for FB and IG and one image at 1024px x 512px for Twitter to save time. Do you recommend making three different sizes every time? -Melissa
