Generative Fill with Photoshop 2025 update (Oct '24, v 26.0) producing oversharpened results?

New Here ,

Updated Photoshop to version 26.0 today and whenever I use Generative Fill, the results are unnatural and look extremely oversharpened. I've tried this on several images with similar results. Usually, selecting a smaller area and regenerating will help but nothing is working.

Anyone else noticing the same issue?

Hi, I have the same issue. I am a portrait photographer and use generative fill mostly to naturally retouch hair and skin. I never type a prompt, I just press enter. I have sporadically gotten weird result, but over all it has been fantastic and drastically improved my work, the success rate was very very high but just clicking enter, no matter what. I have adapted my workflow to the prior results and although it takes a bit longer due to the need for an internet connection compared to older ways of editing, this is my state of the art.

Since I updated to Version 26.0.0 I get super weird results. A pencil on a forehead when I just wanted to remove a little hair. Oversharpened artefacts when trying to smooth out skin. Writing under the eyes when removing dark circles. What is wrong here? I was so super super happy with this feature, was actually thinking about giving courses on how to use this tool for portrait retouching, because I had mastered it flawlessly and it seemed most of my co-photographers were not so aware of this tool for simple retouching. At the moment I just keep wondering what the hell is wrong with the AI all of the sudden. The success rate dropped to maybe than 10% now, often zero and I need to restart many times. I am so very frustrated.

Look at this example: I wanted to remove the shadow on the skin cast from the glasses. Instead, I got a mother with her baby. I get that these kind of generations make sense when I put in a prompt like "mother with a baby". But uhm, I was taught by Photoshop that I should not put in a prompt when I want to remove something. This doesn't work anymore and it's a tragedy for my work.

Yep. Due to the nature of my work I've been using it a lot, and in version 2024 it was almost perfect. 2025's quality is like midjourney beta from 3 years ago.

Generative fill now generated a rabbit, a tank and a black blodge under the eye I am retouching. I am so frustrated.

Maybe that`s a sign they are working on fixing it? I hope so.
