Hi, I've recently bought a Lumix GX1 camera - a really lovely piece of kit. The problem is that it shoots in a RW2 format for RAW. I've read about the Camera Raw 5.2 install, have installed it from Adobe downloads, and put the new plug-in where instructed to from the download instructions. PS still can't read them! I'm running Photoshop CS4 on a mac, os 10.5.8. Any ideas?
cheers,
Mark.

What gave you the idea Camera Raw 5 supports that camera?
To quote from
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.html
Support for the following cameras has been added from Camera Raw 6.5 to 6.6 and Lightroom 3.5 to Lightroom 3.6
Canon Powershot S100
Fuji FinePix X10
Leica V-LUX3
Nikon 1 V1
Nikon 1 J1Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1
Ricoh GR Digital IV
Samsung NX5
Samsung NX200
Sony NEX-7
And have you tried the free DNG Converter yet?

Hi Mark, you should be running the latest version of Camera Raw for CS4, that is 5.7
But anyways, according to this document: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407111.html the GX1 is first supported by ACR 6.6
You'll then need to download the latest version of the DNG converter, to convert your files to DNG, that your version of Camera Raw can support.
Write also an email to Panasonic US or Japan, asking them to support the free and documented DNG format in-camera, that would give day zero support in many raw converters!

Well, I hope affected posters take your advice – unless the manufacturers perceive the demand they will hardly change policies.

I'm not sure that CS4 likes the 6.6 update - doesn't seem to want to play..... I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to RAW files - what exactly is a DNG files, and are there conversion quality issues?
thanks for all your patience
Mark.

Sorry, forgot to state that 6.6 is CS5 only. Hence my mention of running 5.7.
The DNG conversion will not make you lose anything in quality. Everything is carried over, and you can also keep an embedded copy of your original file (useful when the camera manufacturer makes a converter for their own files)
You'll have more info about DNG on its own page: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html or on its wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Negative
Basically, you point the converter to a folder of files, and it will convert them according to the settings you selected.

Have installed Camera 5.7 update, and DNG coverter 5.7 - ran the DNG converter and tried to get it to convert the RW2 files - no luck

You need to download and use the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter, always. Currently I believe it is 6.6.
