gradient question

I can apply a transparent gradient to an image, but I cannot figure how to apply a transparent gradient which goes from the middle of the image to the outside on both the top and bottom or left and right.

So in other words I need the center of the image to be full and the gradient opacity gets higher as you look at the top and bottom, follow?

I tried this with two mask layers one going in to top and one going in to bottom and I cant get it to look right, any help?

Something like this?

2.jpg

Create a new Layer (Ctrl+Shift+N) then use the Gradient Tool (G) with a color to transparent. Drag the Gradient from the top to the center, then again from bottom to center. If you want the gradient perfectly level, start dragging the gradient then hold Shift until you release.
