Gradient tool come back all black

My gradient tool will not work when I use the black to transparency gradient.  When I pick this gradient from the gradient editor, it comes in as all black on the tool.  This just starting happening.

Is the "Transparency" box in the Gradient options checked?

First make sure that the Transparency Stop isn't 100 ( make sure that it is transparent )

Second, Make sure that the transparent option is active in the option bar.
