Graying out of non active layers

An apparent new "feature" is to gray out everything except the actual text box/layer that I am working in. This is so annoying and unnecessary. Is there a way to revert to the old way? I like to see my layout when I am working with text.

Was the previous post unclear?

»Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Character, Paragraph, Options Bar, …) visible?«

Not screenshot fragments … and that the Group in the Layers Panel is collapsed makes even that part pretty meaningless.

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

Setting the Graphics Processor, seems to have resolved it.

I don’t understand what you mean and I am not aware of a remarkable recent change in Type Layer behaviour.

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Character, Paragraph, Options Bar, …) visible?

Here is a combination of screen shots. The upper portion is a normal view. When I try to edit an area of type, using the text tool, the rest of the screen becomes gray. As for panels, etc...see second image.
