Help Automating Coin Image Processing

New Here ,
Jul 31, 2009 Jul 31, 2009

I am cataloging my coin collection and I am trying to find a way to automate  as much of the process as possible.  Doing each one manually is very time  consuming.

I need to process many images of the front (obverse) and back (reserve) for  many coins.  For the obverse Lincoln cents, I need to rotate the image based on  the word LIBERTY being horizontal (for the obverse) or the horizontal base of  the Lincoln memorial or the words ONE CENT (reverse).  Then I need to turn the background into a layer  so I can layer mask the image to 19mm circle centered on the coin to get rid of  the shadows or angular distortortion.  Then I need to create another layer and  dump a paint bucket of white to fill it, then place this layer behind the layer  with the image of the coin and the mask.

I would be willing to hire out for such a script as long as the price is  reasonable.

Thank you...

Your images can't be viewed at the moment. Attachments take awhile before they appear.

'Insert Image' tends to work better.

The hard parts of the script are the rotatiion parts. It's something that would probably have to

be handled manually. It's hard to say without seeing the images, but the rest seems to be

fairly standard coding.

Manually rotating each image using the ruler and rotate canvas function and having the rest automated would be most acceptable.

Hello X,

I could use the Ruler and select my horizontal reference and use the Image|Rotate Canvas|Arbitrary to let Photoshop figure out how much to rotate and do the actual rotation.

First I need to turn the Background into Layer 0. Then I need to mask the image (for Lincoln pennies) to 1660 by 1660 centered on the coin to get rid of any camera shadows. I don't know if this can be automated.

Then I need to create a Layer 1 and PaintBucket Fill it with the color white. Then this layer needs to be moved behind Layer 0 (the layer with the coin on it), and then saved as a JPEG (JPG extension) with a file name specified by me.

Can you do this? If so, how much?

I'll include a Photoshop formatted example file for reference, as well as a raw JPG camera shot.

Thanks...

I need to iterate through an entire directory at a time.

I forgot and sent both files as JPG. Here's the Photoshop version of the output.
