How do I duplicate a shape and rotate it around a circle

Explorer ,
May 03, 2011 May 03, 2011

Example...if i had a circle in the middle of the page and i wanted to rotate a vertical bar shape around that circle at perfectly even intervals (somewhat like sun rays), how would i do that? i know i could use actions to record the moving of the registration point, as well as the actual rotation of the shape, but there has to be an easier way.

If you have Illustrator, and are somewhat familiar with the basics, it's a snap.

In Photoshop, it's copy, transform, copy, transform, copy, transform.

If I understand the question, this may be your answer:

Blank document choose view>show guides and snap.

Find the center using a vertical and horizontal guides.

Custom shape tool, create a triangle with a point at the center where guides intersect.

Move tool, free transform the triangle to the shape of one ray. Hit return.

Command>T, Drag the center point of the move tool's transform controls, down to the intersection of the guides ( center of doc).

Hold the shift key and rotate the triangle one tick. Hit return.

Hold command-option-shift and click the "T" key to create rays.

Tom Murray’s advice to use command-alt-shift-T is good.

If the task arises very often you might consider a Scripting solution.

This one would need to put the adequate number of copies in one Layer Group and select the Group before running it, but it could be adapted to create the copies, too.
